The Lost Bus: How Industrial Light & Magic Recreated a Deadly Wildfire

In The Lost Bus, ILM crafts the bus, the surrounding landscapes, and large-scale fire simulations to immerse viewers in a relentless wildfire survival story, placing the audience directly in the path of an advancing and unpredictable inferno.

Set against the backdrop of one of America’s most catastrophic wildfires, The Lost Bus follows a desperate race against time as two adults attempt to guide 22 children to safety. The film unfolds as a high-stakes survival thriller rooted in real events.

Industrial Light & Magic reconstructs the vehicle and surrounding environments while deploying advanced FX simulations to capture the unpredictable behavior of fire. The result is a fully immersive experience that conveys both the scale of the disaster and the immediacy of the danger.
