Set decades before the rise of Katniss Everdeen, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping takes audiences back to a darker chapter of Panem’s history, unveiling the origins of one of the saga’s most iconic characters.
The first trailer reveals a young Haymitch Abernathy as he is thrust into the brutal 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. With glimpses of a larger arena, heightened stakes, and a more oppressive Capitol, the film explores the foundations of rebellion while expanding the mythology of the franchise.
The Production VFX Supervisor is Janek Sirrs and the Production VFX Producer is Scott Shapiro. The visual effects work are handled by Framestore, Pixomondo, Rising Sun Pictures, beloFX and RISE.
The film is directed by Francis Lawrence and scheduled for release on November 20, 2026, in the United States.
