With 161 shots delivered, beloFX played a key role in shaping the intense visual journey of The Lost Bus, combining large-scale previs, CG environments, fire simulations, and aerial action to support a story driven by speed, danger, and chaos.
From the earliest stages, the team developed extensive previs to plan the full duration of the bus journey, using Unreal Engine to visualize complex elements such as evacuating traffic, dynamic lighting from vehicles and fire, volumetric fire and smoke, and intricate camera motion. This real-time approach allowed animated and live-linked cameras to be operated directly in Unreal, enabling rapid iteration and daily feedback.
The work spans both airborne and ground-based sequences, from large-scale aerial shots featuring firefighting planes, vast forest environments, and massive smoke plumes, to fully CG fire events and environment extensions on the ground. Key moments include the establishment of extreme weather conditions, the ignition of the fire itself, congested road intersections, and escalating fire activity around key locations, all enhanced with CG trees, buildings, debris, embers, smoke, and spot fires.
