Massive creatures, giant environments, and larger-than-life action: Important Looking Pirates reveals its visual effects work on One Piece Season 2, including the creation of Laboon and the world of Twin Capes.
For One Piece Season 2, Important Looking Pirates focused heavily on bringing Laboon to life, the giant whale appearing prominently in episode 2. The team also created a younger version of the character for the backstory sequences. Modelled largely after a sperm whale, Laboon’s enormous 450-meter scale required highly complex FX water simulations to accurately handle the movement and interaction of such a massive creature.
Beyond creature work, Important Looking Pirates also built major digital environments for the series. This included the Twin Capes Cove location, featuring the immense Red Line cliffs stretching to the horizon, along with the exit of Reverse Mountain and its river extending beyond the clouds. Episodes 4 and 5 also featured extensive full CG jungle environments, used as the backdrop for the live-action giants Brogy and Dorry, with digital techniques helping reinforce their monumental scale.
