F1: The Movie – Inside the Invisible Visual Effects Behind the Races

This VFX making of for F1: The Movie takes a closer look at the invisible visual effects delivered by Framestore, ILM, Red Visual Effects and Metaphysic, revealing how digital work was used to push the scale, intensity, and realism of the Formula 1 racing sequences.

A key part of the work is race augmentation, including digitally replacing specific cars in the most demanding shots. Some cars are also 100% CG, allowing full control while maintaining realism.

Beyond the vehicles, the VFX teams created grandstands and handled crowd creation and animation to widen the scope of the events. They also enhanced stunts and car crashes to heighten impact.
