The Netflix making-of highlights the visual effects created by Eyeline Studios for One Piece Season 2, with VFX Supervisor Derek Spears detailing the design of the Tyrannosaurus Rex and the massive “Island Eater” goldfish.
Eyeline Studios, part of the Netflix family since 2021, was tasked with bringing several large-scale creatures to life while maintaining the show’s unique visual identity. As Derek Spears explains, the challenge was to balance realism with the stylized, fanciful tone that defines the world of One Piece.
Particular attention was given to the goldfish sequence, where hyper-realistic textures and carefully crafted slow water simulations helped convey scale and weight. Meanwhile, the dinosaurs evolved beyond their initial scope, with additional shots added following strong creative feedback.
