Cold Storage features extensive visual effects created by MPC, including creature animation, animal work and large-scale environmental destruction, with the studio delivering 541 shots across an 18-month international production.
The project relied on a large-scale collaboration spanning multiple locations, bringing together 431 artists to craft a wide range of visual effects. The work included digital environment extensions, fully CG environments, creatures, macro-scale sequences, large explosions and destruction, as well as subtle digital enhancements to practical SFX makeup. This broad scope required the involvement of every department within the studio and led to the development of numerous custom assets and technical solutions.
One of the film’s biggest challenges was covering the full spectrum of visual effects—from invisible cleanup work to large-scale environmental destruction. The teams worked across creature animation, digital set extensions and complex simulations, making Cold Storage a project that pushed multiple areas of the studio’s VFX pipeline simultaneously.
