Look like a lot of time of developing… but they are so poorly confident with their fx of destruction body that they put a flamy-comet (which looks like a sprite cheap stuff, by the way) in front of it every time…bizarre..
too bad.
…or it was what the client wanted.
Which is the way VFX works most of the time.
Yes, i know.
Sometimes we are proposing differents versions of the same fx (more rarely these days because of time-budget crush) and the director most often chose the most show off result.
(i speak for the french area, i don’t know about foreign work)
