Variety has just unveiled the 20 finalists contending for Best Visual Effects at the 98th Academy Awards — congratulations to all the teams whose remarkable work made the cut!

The preliminary voting period for the Oscars shortlist runs from December 8 to 12, with shortlists in 12 categories revealed on December 16. The VFX bake-offs will follow on January 10–11, where the final 10 films will present to branch members. Voting for all branches takes place January 12–16, and the nominations will be announced on January 22.
The 98th Academy Awards will be held on March 15, 2026.
