In 2011, Jesper Kjolsrud had explained in details the work of Image Engine for THE THING. He then supervised the effects R.I.P.D. As one of Image Engine’s longest serving crewmembers, Bernhard Kimbacher has contributed to many of the company’s projects, including DISTRICT 9; THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE; THE THING; BATTLESHIP and ELYSIUM. He joined Jesper on set in New Mexico as Plate Supervisor for LONE SURVIVOR and was also the Compositing Supervisor.

Since his last interview here, Dan Schrecker worked on several projects such as THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY and GODS BEHAVING BADLY. NOAH is the occasion to work again with director Darren Aronofsky since BLACK SWAN.

Oliver Hohn is working for over 5 years in the compositing at RISE. He has participated on various movies such as PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS: THE LIGHTNING THIEF, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, CLOUD ATLAS or IRON MAN 3.

After working with Douglas Trumbull as traditional model maker, Russell Earl joined the teams of ILM in the beginning of the 90s. He worked on many projects such as DRAGONHEART, DEEP IMPACT, STAR WARS: EPISODE I - THE PHANTOM MENACE and MEN IN BLACK II. As VFX Supervisor, he took care of the effects for movies like TRANSFORMERS, RED TAILS, STAR TREK and SUPER 8.

In his last interview, Jon Neill had explained in details the work of Cinesite on SKYFALL. Now, he tells us about his work on THE MONUMENTS MEN.

In 2011, Danielle Plantec had detailed to us the work of Scanline VFX on IMMORTALS. She then worked on films such as IRON MAN 3 MAN OF STEEL or THE WOLF OF WALL STREET. In 2012, Byan Hirota talked about his work on SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN at Pixomondo. He has moved then to Scanline VFX. Today, they explain in detail their work on the sequel of 300.

Laurent Taillefer worked for more than 10 years in visual effects. He worked in France especially at Mikros Image then went to Montreal. He worked for several studios such as New Breed Vfx, Vision Globale or Mokko Studio and participated in projects like PIRANHA 3D, MIRROR MIRROR or ASTERIX AND OBELIX: GOD SAVE BRITANNIA.

Nordin Rahhali is evolving for more than 15 years in the visual effects. Before joining the teams of Method Studios, he worked at CORE Digital Pictures or Digital Domain. He has worked on many projects such as BLADE II, TRANSFORMERS, 2012 or IRON MAN 3.

Gabriel Sanchez began his career in visual effects in the mid-1990s. In 2004, he joined Look Effects as Flame artist. He has worked on films such as THE FOUNTAIN, THE DARJEELING LIMITED, BLACK SWAN or LIMITLESS.

For the 4th years of The Art of VFX, I decided to offer you new content and mostly editorial contents. This first article "Look back on 2013 and the expectations for 2014" is the first step. I hope you will find it interesting.
